A Candle in Her Heart

First published 1964 · 344 pages

A comforting, vintage blend of polite mystery and wholesome romance that feels like wrapping up in a warm, familiar blanket.

What it feels like

Reading this vintage romantic suspense is like stepping into a gentler, more polite era where good and evil are clearly defined and the heroes are unfailingly honorable. The narrative unfolds at a steady, comforting pace, blending the mild thrill of corporate espionage with the cozy warmth of a traditional love story. There is a distinct mid-century earnestness to the prose, which lingers on elegant settings and the quiet integrity of its characters. While the stakes involve stolen formulas and hidden identities, the atmosphere remains entirely safe and sunlit, never dipping into true darkness. It is a deeply nostalgic experience, perfect for readers who want to retreat into an idealistic world where moral fortitude is always rewarded with a happily-ever-after.

About the book

A returned war hero dealing with chemical formula leaks while hiding under a different face and identity. I liked this book. The positive characters are always a bit ideal in the books of this author but in makes for a nice feeling inside.
