A Wager for Love

398 pages

A delightfully scandalous romp where a cynical wager and a midnight abduction ignite a fiery battle of wits and wills.

What it feels like

Reading this vintage Regency romance feels like stepping into a delightfully theatrical parlor comedy where the stakes are scandalous and the banter is sharp. The narrative moves at a brisk, entertaining clip, sweeping the reader up in a whirlwind of high-handed rakes, midnight abductions, and spirited heroines who refuse to go quietly. There is a distinctly old-school flavor to the melodrama, wrapping the reader in a breezy, lighthearted mood even as the characters clash in a fiery battle of the sexes. The prose is arch and playful, perfectly suited to the enemies-to-lovers dynamic and the trope of the cynical wager. It is a perfect comfort read for fans of classic, trope-heavy historical romance who love watching a notorious scoundrel thoroughly meet his match.

About the book

The Earl of Saltaire had a reputation as a rakehell, an abductor and ravisher of women, a dandy and a demon on horseback. Much of what was said about him was true. Then what lady of means and of irreproachable character would consider marrying him—especially if she knew the reason for the match was primarily to win a bet? Certainly not Lavinia Davenham, a beautiful lady whose wealth was newly acquired, but whose independence and integrity were lifelong qualities. Why, he'd have to carry her off by force in the dark of night! And so he did.
