Amulet

The Last Council (book 4)

224 pages

A high-stakes magical tournament wrapped in creeping dread and cinematic fantasy action.

What it feels like

Reading this installment feels like stepping into a long-awaited sanctuary only to realize the doors have locked behind you. The atmosphere is noticeably darker and more suspenseful than earlier volumes, trading wide-open exploration for the claustrophobic tension of a mysterious, deserted city and a high-stakes magical tournament. The pacing is propulsive, driven by sparse, urgent dialogue and sweeping, cinematic artwork that effortlessly carries the emotional weight of the story. There is a creeping sense of dread that builds as layers of institutional corruption and hidden agendas are peeled back. It is a perfect fit for middle-grade readers who crave immersive, anime-inspired fantasy where the heroes are pushed to their limits and the line between ally and enemy constantly blurs.

About the book

Emily and her friends think they'll find the help they need in Cielis, but something isn't right. Streets that were once busy are deserted, and the townspeople who are left live in fear. Emily is soon escorted to the Academy, where she's expected to compete for a spot on the Guardian Council, a group of the most powerful Stonekeepers. But as the number of competitors gets smaller and smaller, an awful secret is slowly uncovered—a secret that, if left buried, means the certain destruction of everything Emily fights for.
