An Infamous Proposal

A sparkling, banter-filled romp where a pragmatic marriage proposal accidentally ignites a delightfully stubborn romance.

What it feels like

Reading this novel feels like stepping into a sunlit Mayfair drawing room where the tea is hot and the banter is delightfully sharp. It is a breezy, sparkling experience that thrives on the comedic friction between a naive but determined young widow and a cynical lord who cannot help but meddle in her affairs. The narrative moves at a brisk, theatrical pace, carried almost entirely by crisp dialogue and wry observations about high society's matrimonial circus. There is a cozy, comforting warmth to the unfolding romance, free from heavy angst or dark trauma, focusing instead on the playful dance of two people outsmarting themselves. It is a perfect, lighthearted escape for anyone who loves the classic, closed-door charm of traditional Regency romps.

About the book

Emma, having gone at seventeen directly from her papa's home to her husband's arms, is now widowed at age twenty-two--and quite naive in the ways of the world: in particular, how to find herself another match!

Thus, she proposes to Lord Hansard, eyeing him as a husband who would let her enjoy her freedom and discourage the presence of interfering relatives. His blunt refusal is both surprising... and oddly disappointing.

Nick, however, has taken it upon himself to procure a suitable man for this outrageous miss, though none of the candidates are nearly as qualified as... well, himself. Thus Emma begins to suspect that when it comes to a decent proposal, even a gentleman has the right to change his mind.
