Blameless

384 pages

A delightfully absurd romp across Europe where deadly supernatural threats are met with a sharp parasol and an even sharper wit.

What it feels like

Reading this installment feels like embarking on a chaotic, steam-powered Grand Tour with your most fiercely competent and unapologetically pragmatic friend. The atmosphere is effervescent and cheeky, balancing the genuine emotional sting of a sudden marital estrangement with the sheer absurdity of vampire assassins and pesto-wielding Templars. The prose is delightfully arch, delivering rapid-fire banter and Victorian societal critiques with a perfectly straight face. Despite the underlying angst of the protagonist's personal life, the pacing remains brisk and the mood relentlessly fun, propelled by dirigible flights and mechanical ladybugs. It is a perfect escape for readers who delight in historical fantasy that refuses to take itself too seriously, where a proper cup of tea is just as vital as surviving a supernatural ambush.

About the book

All of London's vampires are very much interested in seeing Alexia quite thoroughly dead. While Lord Maccon elects to get progressively more inebriated and Professor Lyall desperately tries to hold the Woolsey werewolf pack together, Alexia flees England for Italy in search of the mysterious Templars. Only they know enough about the preternatural to explain her increasingly inconvenient condition, but they may be worse than the vampires -- and they're armed with pesto.
