A nostalgic plunge into classic high fantasy where a sheltered scholar must trade his books for divine magic to stop a creeping evil.

What it feels like

Reading this book feels like gathering around a table with old friends for a classic tabletop adventure. It balances the cozy, cloistered warmth of a magical library with the sudden, thrilling peril of a creeping curse. The narrative moves at a brisk, engaging clip, propelled by Salvatore's signature cinematic combat and the endearing banter of a mismatched adventuring party. There is a distinct earnestness to the storytelling, capturing the nostalgic charm of nineties high fantasy where good and evil are clearly drawn, yet the protagonist's internal struggle with faith and duty adds a layer of spiritual weight. It will delight readers who love reluctant scholars, martial arts monks, boisterous dwarves, and the comforting rhythm of a hero stepping out of the archives and into legend.
