Dauntless (The Lost Fleet, Book 1)

400 pages

A tense, tactical fight for survival where the greatest challenge isn't just outsmarting the enemy, but living up to an impossible legend.

What it feels like

Reading this military sci-fi adventure feels like standing on the bridge of a battered flagship, surrounded by the cold vacuum of space and the crushing weight of command. The narrative moves at a brisk, disciplined clip, driven less by explosive action and more by the tense, high-stakes chess match of relativistic space combat. The prose is utilitarian and precise, perfectly mirroring the pragmatic mindset of a reluctant leader forced to guide a fractured, desperate fleet through hostile territory. It is an earnest, deeply tactical experience that immerses you in chain-of-command politics, the erosion of military discipline, and the heavy burden of living up to a myth. Fans of detailed fleet maneuvers and hyper-competent, morally grounded protagonists will devour this gripping tale of survival against impossible odds.

About the book

After a hundred years of brutal war against the Syndics, the Alliance fleet is marooned deep in enemy territory, weakened and demoralised and desperate to make it home. Their fate rests in the hands of Captain Black Jack Geary, a man who has been presumed dead but then emerged from a century of survival hibernation to find his name had become legend. Forced by a cruel twist of fate into taking command of the fleet, Geary must find a way to inspire the battle-hardened and exhausted men and women of the fleet or face certain annihilation by their enemies.
