A tense, mountain-set mystery where fierce sibling loyalty collides with a sudden, shocking accusation.
What it feels like
Set against the atmospheric backdrop of the Appalachian Mountains, this middle-grade mystery balances the warmth of fierce sibling loyalty with the sudden, chilling tension of a murder accusation. The narrative moves at a brisk pace, pulling the reader out of a rustic family drama and plunging them into a high-stakes fight for justice. The mood is shadowed and suspenseful, grounded by a defiant, protective tone as a young protagonist faces down the revenge of a wealthy local. With prose that feels rooted in its North Carolina setting, it explores themes of class friction and the lengths we go to protect our brothers and sisters. It is a perfect fit for readers who devour scrappy underdog stories and atmospheric, character-driven mysteries.
