Extreme Prey

582 pages

A high-octane, cat-and-mouse thriller that trades the police precinct for the campaign trail, fueled by dry wit and relentless momentum.

What it feels like

This is a thriller that hits the ground running and never looks back, trading the familiar confines of a police precinct for the chaotic, high-stakes arena of a presidential campaign. The reading experience is intensely propulsive, driven by a ticking-clock momentum and a deeply satisfying cat-and-mouse dynamic. You are plunged into a tense, adrenaline-fueled atmosphere where danger lurks just outside the camera frame. Yet, despite the gritty stakes and looming threat of political violence, the narrative is laced with a wry, cynical humor that keeps the dark subject matter from feeling oppressive. The prose is punchy and dialogue-heavy, perfectly suited for readers who love hyper-competent, slightly rogue protagonists who rely on sharp instincts and a blatant disregard for bureaucratic red tape to get the job done.

About the book

After the events in Gathering Prey (2015), Lucas Davenport finds himself in a very unusual situation -- no longer employed by the Minnesota BCA. His friend the governor is just cranking up a presidential campaign, though, and he invites Lucas to come along as part of his campaign staff. "Should be fun!" he says, and it kind of is -- until they find they have a shadow: an armed man intent on killing the governor and anyone who gets in the way.
