608 pages
A methodical, deeply satisfying exploration of how advanced technology and sheer grit transform stranded soldiers into the legendary figures of a magical world.
What it feels like
Reading this book feels like watching a master craftsman slowly assemble a complex puzzle, piece by deliberate piece. It is a deeply grounded, survivalist fantasy that thrives on the methodical details of adaptation—how to build shelter, forge weapons, and understand the physics of a newly discovered magic system. The mood is serious and determined, anchored by a cast of hyper-competent women who approach their displacement not with despair, but with pragmatic engineering. It lacks the breathless pacing of a traditional action epic, opting instead for a steady, satisfying rhythm of problem-solving and societal foundation. It will thoroughly delight readers who love detailed world-building and the fascinating intersection where science fiction crash-lands into epic fantasy myth-making.

About the book
A combat space ship attacks an old enemies position in deep space and finds itself in what possibly is another universe that with the exception of a nearby planet, they'll be unable to explore. Their ship is badly damaged and unable to land or go elsewhere. Using their landing crafts, they abandon their ship and land on the planet. There, they find that that they have changed, primarily in hair color, but that change is also accompanied by strange powers, powers that they really need if they are to survive - because the human natives of the planet are descended from their enemies. An outstanding tale and well worth your reading. gmb 8/6/2020
