400 pages

A dark, atmospheric descent into ambition where a destined empress must embrace gruesome magic to secure her throne.

What it feels like

Steeped in the shadowy atmosphere of a twisted fairy tale, this dark fantasy offers a chilling exploration of ambition and the terrifying price of power. The narrative unfolds with a steady, foreboding rhythm, drawing the reader into a dread-soaked world where destiny demands gruesome sacrifices. It feels less like a traditional hero's journey and more like a majestic, inevitable descent into darkness, as the protagonist sheds her humanity and embraces a ruthless, heart-consuming magic. The prose is lush and ominous, perfectly capturing the tension between a peasant's longing and an empress's cruel ascent. It is a deeply atmospheric read that will delight fans of villain origin stories, Asian-inspired fantasy, and unapologetically dark retellings where ambition eclipses love.
