Halfway to the Grave

First published 2007 · 384 pages

A high-octane blend of snark, stakes, and sizzle where embracing your dark side is the only way to survive.

What it feels like

Reading this book feels like stepping back into the golden age of 2000s urban fantasy, where the leather is tight, the stakes are literal, and the banter is as sharp as the fangs. It is a propulsive, adrenaline-fueled ride that balances gritty, nocturnal action with unapologetic steam. The narrative voice is punchy and irreverent, pulling you into a world of dive bars, dark alleys, and lethal training montages. Beneath the blood-spattered surface, it is a deeply satisfying story about unlearning internalized hatred and embracing the messy, dangerous parts of oneself. It will absolutely delight readers who love a fiercely capable heroine, a morally gray but fiercely devoted love interest, and a romance that burns slow before exploding into high-stakes passion.

About the book

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father--the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner--are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side... and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.
