Lark

402 pages

A classic, snowbound Western romance where a harsh marriage of duty slowly thaws into a tender, forbidden awakening.

What it feels like

Reading this book feels like stepping into a snowbound Colorado cabin, where the biting cold of the frontier is matched only by the bleakness of a loveless marriage of duty. The narrative unfolds at a steady, deliberate pace, immersing the reader in the grueling realities of ranch life before slowly turning up the heat. It carries the distinct, earnest melodrama of classic historical romance, blending gritty survival with a tender, simmering sexual awakening. The prose is straightforward but deeply atmospheric, capturing both the harshness of the winter winds and the cozy, forbidden warmth found in stolen moments. It is a deeply satisfying read for fans of old-school Westerns who crave resilient heroines, rugged cowboys, and the trope-heavy comfort of finding true love in the most unconventional of circumstances.

About the book

Trapped in a loveless marriage, Lark Elliot longed to lead a normal life like the pretty women she saw in town, to wear new clothes and be courted by young suitors. But she had married Cletus Gibb, a man twice her age, so her elderly aunt and uncle could stay through the long Colorado winter in the mountain cabin he owned. Resigned to backbreaking labor on Gibb's ranch, Lark found one person who made the days bearable: Ace Brandon. But when her husband paid the rugged cowhand to father him an heir, at first Lark thought she had been wrong about Ace's kindness. It wasn't long, however, before she was looking forward to the warmth of his tender kiss, to the feel of his strong body. And as the heat of their desire melted away the cold winter nights, Lark knew she'd found the haven she'd always dreamed of in the circle of his loving.
