Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, Book 2)

272 pages

A gritty, snark-fueled plunge into a ruined city where mythic monsters clash and a reluctant heroine bleeds to keep the peace.

What it feels like

Reading this feels like riding a motorcycle through a ruined, monster-infested city—exhilarating, dangerous, and unapologetically gritty. The narrative is propelled by a ticking-clock tension as magic floods the world, bringing mythic horrors to life. You are anchored by a fiercely pragmatic, sword-swinging protagonist whose deadpan snark masks a deeply buried vulnerability. The prose is punchy and visceral, making every bone-crunching fight and narrow escape feel immediate. Beneath the blood and bravado, there is a surprisingly tender emotional undercurrent as the fiercely independent heroine begins to forge reluctant alliances and a found family. It is a perfect fit for readers who crave high-octane urban fantasy, slow-burn tension, and a world where ancient gods collide with modern grit.

About the book

As a mercenary who cleans up after magic gone wrong, Kate Daniels knows how waves of paranormal energy ebb and flow across Atlanta like a tide. But once every seven years, a flare comes, a time when magic runs rampant. When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack, Atlanta's paramilitary clan of shape shifters, she quickly realizes much more is at stake. The stolen maps are only the opening gambit in an epic tug of war between two gods hoping for rebirth, and if Kate can't stop the cataclysmic showdown, the city may not survive.
