A breezy, trope-tastic romance where a convenient little white lie snowballs into a battle of wills and unexpected affection.

What it feels like

Reading this book feels like settling in for a classic, breezy romantic comedy where the tropes are familiar and the execution is pure fun. The narrative moves at a brisk, entertaining pace, driven by the escalating consequences of a single, well-intentioned white lie. There is a playful, slightly dramatic tone that colors the interactions between the fiercely reluctant heroine and the notoriously grumpy hero, creating a mood that is both humorous and crackling with romantic tension. The prose is accessible and focused on the snappy friction of their forced proximity. It is a delightful escape for readers who devour stories about family expectations, opposites attracting, and the delightful chaos of a fake relationship turning all too real.

About the book

Damon DeMorney was the last man on earth Mercy Stewart wanted to marry. He was arrogant, overbearing and, well, just plain grumpy! But her grandpa was determined to see her settled down with a husband, and telling him she had married Damon seemed to put his mind at rest.

As far as Damon was concerned, if Mercy had told everyone she was his wife--then that's what she would be! Mercy was about to find out that it didn't matter how small, or white, the lie was--you always paid for it in the end....
