A relentless, twist-a-minute domestic thriller that transforms a quiet suburban life into a paranoid nightmare.
What it feels like
This is the kind of thriller that grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go, built on a foundation of deep, unsettling paranoia. The narrative thrust is incredibly propulsive, driven by an everyman perspective that makes the escalating nightmare feel terrifyingly plausible. You are plunged into a tense, claustrophobic atmosphere where the safety of domestic life is constantly undermined by the creeping dread of the past. The prose is sharp, unpretentious, and heavily reliant on snappy dialogue and cliffhanger chapter endings that make it nearly impossible to put down. It is a perfect fit for readers who devour Harlan Coben's suburban mysteries, offering a frantic, emotionally charged ride through family secrets, gaslighting, and the devastating consequences of long-buried truths.

About the book
Fourteen-year-old Cynthia Bigge wakes up one morning to find her entire family gone. Twenty-five years later, their unexplained disappearance still haunts her. She agrees to appear on the reenactment show Deadline, hoping the TV exposure might provide her with some answers, although her husband, English teacher Terry Archer, is considerably more skeptical. Indeed, not long after the show airs, the two are shaken down by a psychic, receive a series of bizarre phone calls, and become the victims of a break-in, although nothing is taken; instead, something is left--a hat that Cynthia is convinced belonged to her father.
