Pulse Of The Heartland

288 pages

A warm, nostalgic journey into the heart of a Midwestern farming town, where a stoic florist and an irrepressible newcomer clash their way to love.

What it feels like

Reading this vintage romance feels like stepping into a sunlit, slow-moving afternoon in the American Midwest. The narrative unfolds at a steady, comforting pace, wrapping the reader in a pastoral mood defined by blooming flowers, rolling farmlands, and the inescapable charm of small-town gossip. The prose is grounded and highly descriptive, lingering on the natural beauty of the setting while capturing the classic, push-and-pull dynamic between a dutiful, reserved heroine and a persistently charming hero. While the gender dynamics reflect the era of its publication, the emotional core—balancing familial duty with the sudden, terrifying thrill of personal desire—remains timeless. It is a perfect, cozy escape for readers who love old-fashioned, opposites-attract romances steeped in community ties and rural warmth.

About the book

Emily was ready for a change. When her friends had left for college and city life, she'd stayed behind to nurse her mother. Now, at twenty-seven, she was seriously considering selling her florist's shop and leaving the small Minnesota farming community. And that's when Nick Simon came home. Nick came for his grandfather's funeral--but quickly decided to stick around and break down Emily's stoical reserve. Nick drove her crazy, but there seemed to be no way to get rid of him. Nor could Emily convince the town they weren't really having a torrid affair!

A very good old-school romance between stoically reserved Emily and irrepressible Nick Simon. Beautiful descriptions of life in a rural community of a midwestern American town. Elements of nature, life, love and strength come together seamlessly in this well-woven tale. The man-woman dynamic may seem anachronistic in today's times, but there are still some universal lessons to draw from it.
