Red Dwarf Omnibus

608 pages

A hilariously bleak romp through deep space alongside the universe's most incompetent and dysfunctional survivors.

What it feels like

Reading this omnibus feels like being trapped in a grimy, malfunctioning escape pod with your most annoying but fiercely funny friends. It is a masterclass in British sci-fi comedy, moving at a brisk, gag-heavy pace that masks a surprisingly deep well of existential dread and cosmic loneliness. The prose is punchy and irreverent, perfectly translating the beloved television show's slapstick and high-concept absurdism onto the page. You are immersed in a universe that is vast, empty, and entirely indifferent to human suffering, which only makes the petty squabbles of its slacker protagonists funnier. It delights readers who prefer their space exploration to feature less heroic destiny and more arguments about vending machines, delivering a chaotic, laugh-out-loud journey through the stars.

About the book

Here are the first two novels of the cult series Red Dwarf in one volume – Red Dwarf and Better Than Life – plus the first draft of the original TV pilot script. It all when Dave Lister is celebrating his twenty-fourth birthday on a Monopoly board pub crawl round London, and somehow ends up three million years from Earth, marooned in the wrong dimension of the wrong reality, and down to his last two cigarettes. Together with a dead man, a senile computer, a deranged sanitation mechanoid with an overactive guilt chip and the best-dressed entity in all six known universes, the last remaining member of the human race begins his epic journey home.
