Substitute Bride

192 pages

A volatile, sun-drenched vintage romance steeped in bitter misunderstandings and intense, problematic power dynamics.

What it feels like

Stepping into this vintage romance is like walking into a humid, emotionally oppressive tropical storm. The narrative moves at a brisk, melodramatic clip, plunging the reader into a world of intense power imbalances and bitter cynicism. It feels distinctly of its era, characterized by a volatile, domineering hero and an innocent heroine trapped in a web of revenge and misunderstanding. The atmosphere is thick with tension, contrasting the lush, sun-drenched backdrop of Barbados with the cold, harsh realities of a marriage built on spite. The prose is dramatic and heavily focused on internal angst and sharp, cutting dialogue. This is a fascinating, if challenging, time capsule for readers who devour the dark, problematic, and highly charged dynamics of classic category romance.
