A snarky modern teenager tumbles through time into ancient scripture, trading his cynicism for a high-stakes, faith-testing adventure.

What it feels like

Reading this book feels like stepping into a time capsule of nineties youth group energy mixed with high-stakes portal fantasy. The narrative is driven by a distinctly snarky, tough-guy teenage voice that masks a deeply earnest coming-of-age journey. It moves at a brisk, cinematic clip, throwing its modern, skeptical protagonist into ancient, awe-inspiring perils that test both his survival skills and his budding faith. The atmosphere balances the dusty, sun-baked danger of ancient wilderness with the comforting, familiar dynamics of bickering siblings and unlikely friendships. About the book

This is one of the coolest books ever written. It's about a boy named Jamie- but he goes by Jim, and anyone who tries to call him Jamie, (a name he feels is better suited to girls and French poodles) had better 'have had two years of karate, because I've had one.' He travels into the past- the long past. As in Book of Mormon times! He has to figure out how to get 2,600 years back to the future, but he's stuck with the class geek, Garth Plimpton, and his annoying little sister, Jenny. This is one heck of a book!!
