Warm Bodies

349 pages

A surprisingly tender, darkly funny exploration of what it means to be alive, wrapped in a post-apocalyptic romance.

What it feels like

Reading this book feels like watching a black-and-white photograph slowly bloom into vibrant color. It is a surprisingly tender and lyrical experience that subverts the typical zombie narrative, trading relentless horror for a wry, melancholic introspection. The prose is unexpectedly poetic, finding moments of cozy beauty and dark humor amidst the grim ruins of civilization. As the narrative unfolds at a steady, deliberate pace, the initial atmosphere of numb isolation gives way to a fierce, heartwarming hope. It is a story about the desperate yearning for connection and the literal reawakening of the human spirit. This will delight readers who love genre-bending romances, apocalyptic settings with a soft beating heart, and stories that prove love can breathe life into the deadest of spaces.

About the book

R is having a no-life crisis -- he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he is a little different from his fellow Dead. He may occasionally eat people, but he'd rather be riding abandoned airport escalators, listening to Sinatra in the cozy 747 he calls home, or collecting souvenirs from the ruins of civilization. And then he meets a girl. First as his captive, then his reluctant house guest, Julie is a blast of living color in R's gray landscape, and something inside him begins to bloom. He doesn't want to eat this girl -- although she looks delicious -- he wants to protect her. But their unlikely bond will cause ripples they can't imagine, and their hopeless world won't change without a fight. - Publisher.
