A tense, psychologically grueling detour on a post-apocalyptic road trip that forces a reckless survivor to confront his deepest traumas.

What it feels like

Reading this volume feels like hitting the brakes on a high-speed road trip to stare directly into the abyss of a character's mind. The usual brisk, cross-country momentum gives way to a deeply claustrophobic and psychologically intense atmosphere. It is a grueling but necessary emotional detour, stripping away the protagonist's trademark pop-culture snark to expose the raw, bleeding survivor's guilt underneath. The dialogue remains sharp and witty, but the humor acts as a thin shield against profound trauma and self-sabotage. The clean, expressive artwork grounds the surreal, harrowing internal landscapes in stark reality. This installment will captivate readers who love post-apocalyptic stories that prioritize messy, vulnerable character development and emotional reckonings over simple survival action.

About the book

As the Last Man on Earth and his companions continue to head West, the story takes a detour into the psychological.

In the care of a fellow Culper Ring member, Yorick Brown is forced to confront his tremendous feelings of survivor guilt that lead him to constantly put his life in danger. Once on the road again, the group runs up against a literal roadblock in Arizona, where the female remains of the Sons of Arizona militia have cut the interstate to keep out any vestiges of the U.S. government.
