A structured, methodical deep dive into the mathematical techniques of nonparametric inference.

What it feels like

Reading this text feels like stepping into a well-organized, brightly lit laboratory of mathematical thought. The experience is deeply methodical and scholarly, guided by an objective and instructional tone that prioritizes clarity above all else. With its expanded pages and cleaner print, the text invites a steady, focused engagement, allowing the reader to carefully absorb complex derivations and new methodologies. It is an atmosphere of pure analytical rigor, moving systematically through specialized techniques like the Ansari-Bradley and Lilliefors tests. The prose is strictly technical yet highly readable, designed not to entertain but to equip. It is a deeply satisfying, structured journey for researchers and statisticians who find comfort and utility in precise, nonparametric mathematical inference.

About the book

The second edition of this book has cleaner and more readable print and larger pages than the 1978 edition and is 130 pages longer. Techniques that have been added include the Ansari- Bradky test, Lehmann contrasts techniques for comparing all treatments and a control, an aligned-ranks procedure for the Friedman test, the Lilliefors test for normality. and several measures of association for qualitative data. Sampling for the Wilcoxon signed ranks, Mann—Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis and Friedman tests also have been derived, and references have been updated. Other changes are minor.
