A tense, emotionally guarded Regency romance where a cynical wager accidentally reignites a long-lost love.

What it feels like

The mood is steeped in the lingering hurt of past misunderstandings, balancing the cynical premise of a marriage wager with the earnest vulnerability of two people who never truly forgot each other. The prose reflects the formal manners of the era, serving as a polite veneer over the simmering resentment and undeniable sparks between a reluctant widow and a prideful lord. It is a story of healing from past heartbreak and navigating the treacherous waters of pride. About the book

Lord Rotham must marry to secure his inheritance, and decides to turn the search for a bride into a wager with his cronies. As he follows through with the terms of the bet, he is horrified when the woman he chooses by chance turns out to be none other than his first love, who he believes jilted him for no reason six years earlier. Claire Ellison is now a widow after an unhappy marriage, and is determined not to let Lord Rotham steal her heart again.
