Vernon God Little
414 pages
A profane, high-octane fever dream of American media circus and teenage desperation.
What it feels like
Reading this book feels like being strapped to a runaway roller coaster in the middle of a sweltering, grotesque carnival. It is a pitch-black, hyper-kinetic satire that immerses you in a fever dream of American media sensationalism and adult hypocrisy. The narrative voice is the star here—profane, dialect-heavy, and bursting with wildly inventive, cynical metaphors that perfectly capture the claustrophobia of being a teenager trapped in an absurd world. The pace is relentlessly propulsive, driven by a frantic energy that leaves you breathless, laughing, and deeply uncomfortable all at once. It will delight readers who crave biting, irreverent social commentary and do not mind getting their hands dirty in the messy, chaotic underbelly of modern culture.
