What Moves the Dead
192 pages
A delightfully skin-crawling descent into a decaying manor where the rot is alive and the narrator is too pragmatic to die without a fight.
What it feels like
Reading this novella feels like stepping into a damp, decaying manor where the walls are breathing and the air smells faintly of mushrooms, yet you are guided by a delightfully pragmatic friend who refuses to let you panic. It balances the suffocating, dread-soaked atmosphere of classic gothic horror with a sharp, wry narrative voice that cuts through the gloom. The pacing is brisk, pulling you deeper into a claustrophobic nightmare of bodily parasitism and eldritch nature. It is a deeply tactile reading experience—you can almost feel the damp rot and hear the unnatural twitching of the wildlife. This is perfect for readers who love their skin-crawling body horror tempered by a fiercely loyal, no-nonsense protagonist who meets the macabre with a dry wit and a loaded weapon.
