A deeply personal dual-timeline memoir that captures the harrowing reality of being caught in a war and the complex emotional landscape of returning to a fractured homeland.
What it feels like
Reading this memoir feels like navigating a bridge between two vastly different eras of a single life, anchored by a steady, reflective narrative voice. The book immerses you in a dual timeline, shifting between the harrowing, tense atmosphere of a childhood caught in the crossfire of a devastating war and the emotionally heavy, nostalgic journey of a later return. The mood is steeped in lingering fear and distrust, yet it remains deeply poignant as it explores the enduring bonds of family and the fractured nature of identity. The prose is personal and earnest, offering an intimate window into the refugee experience. It will deeply move readers who seek powerful, firsthand accounts of survival, historical conflict, and the complicated reality of going back to a home that has been forever changed.
