Zukunft einer Illusion

106 pages

A foundational, analytical exploration of how humanity's deepest wishes manifest as religious belief.

What it feels like

Reading this text feels like sitting in on a profound, deeply analytical lecture that seeks to dismantle the very foundations of human belief. The pace is steady and methodical, guiding the reader through a clinical examination of faith not as a divine truth, but as a psychological phenomenon born from humanity's oldest and most urgent wishes. The mood is highly intellectual and probing, steeped in the authoritative tone of classical psychoanalytic theory. It strips away the mystical to focus entirely on the human mind, exploring how our deepest desires construct the illusions we cling to. This is a contemplative, thought-provoking experience designed for readers who are eager to explore the intersection of psychotherapy and religious psychology, and who appreciate a rigorous, uncompromising dissection of why we believe what we believe.

About the book

In what is considered one of his greatest contributions to psychology, Austrian psychiatrist, Sigmund Freud describes his perspectives on the development and origins of religion - religion as an illusion, wishes that are the "fulfillments of the oldest, strongest, and most urgent wishes of mankind." He goes on to explain and illustrate, "what is characteristic of illusions is that they are derived from human wishes."
