Metamagical Themas
Questing for the Essence of Mind and Pattern
First published 1985 · 880 pages
A sprawling, playful playground for the mind that turns math, language, and logic into a profound exploration of consciousness.
What it feels like
Reading this book feels like spending a long, rainy afternoon in the cluttered, cozy office of a brilliant and eccentric professor. The pace is decidedly meandering, inviting you to wander through a labyrinth of essays that leap from Rubik's Cubes and typography to LISP and the deep mechanics of artificial intelligence. The mood is one of relentless, joyful curiosity, wrapping complex metamathematical concepts in a warm, conversational tone. The prose is idiosyncratic and playful, packed with wordplay, self-referential jokes, and earnest philosophical inquiry. It is an intellectual playground designed for polymaths and restless thinkers, those who delight in seeing how art, logic, and language intertwine to form the very essence of the human mind.

About the book
(NBD|Biblion recensie, Drs. D.G. van der Steen.)
